Agni-V Missile : Indian success story on Defence Technology which poses Challenge over Country Like China

Test Fire of Missile Agni-V on 19 Th April 2012: This 3D Picture Created by Me (Manash Kundu) on 3D Max Software

Agni-V
is an intercontinental ballistic missile developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India. It will greatly expand India's reach to strike targets up to 5,000 km away. The missile was successfully test-fired on 19 April 2012 from Wheeler Island in Odisha.Chinese experts felt that the missile

actually has the potential to reach targets 8,000 km away and that the Indian government had "deliberately downplayed the missile's capability in order to avoid causing concern to other countries".

On 19 April 2012 at 8.07 am, the Agni V was successfully test-fired by DRDO from Wheeler Island off the coast of Odisha. The test launch was made from the Launch Complex 4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Wheeler Island using a rail mobile launcher. The flight time lasted 20 minutes and the third stage fired the re-entry vehicle into the atmosphere at an altitude of 100 km. The missile re-entry vehicle subsequently impacted the pre-designated target point more than 5,000 kilometres (3,100 mi) away in the Indian Ocean. The director of the test range, S.P. Das, informed BBC that all test parameters were met. According to news reports the Agni-V was able to hit the target nearly at pin-point accuracy within a few metres of the designated target point.

Propulsion
The Agni-V is a three stage solid fuelled missile with composite motor casing in the third stage. In many aspects, the Agni-5 carries forward the Agni-3 pedigree. With composites used extensively to reduce weight, and a third stage added on (the Agni-3 was a two-stage missile), the Agni-5 can fly 1,500 km further than the 3,500 km range Agni-III. Two stages of this missile will be made of composite material.Advanced technologies like ring laser gyroscope and accelerometer will be used in the new missile. "You can reduce the payload and (further) increase the range of Agni-V" Saraswat told the Reuters in Feb 2010.

Tassy Thomas : Woman Behind  Agni-V

Picture of Tessy Thomas

Dr. Tessy Thomas((born in 1964) is the Key Scientist for Agni-V in Defence Research and Development Organization, Hyderabad. She is the first woman scientist to head a missile project in India.

Last year, Dr. Tessy Thomas (45) was appointed as project director of the upgraded version of the 2000 km intermediate range nuclear capable ballistic missile, Agni-II. Media publicized this path breaking appointment of India' s 1st female missile project director and she was proudly dubbed as India`s “missile woman” and “Agniputri”. An expert of solid system propellants which is used in Agni missile, Dr. Tessy Thomas earlier has worked as Assistant Project Director in the successful launch of India's longest range nuclear capable Agni III Inter ballistic missile.

Early life and Education

Tessy Thomas At DRDO ,Hyderabad

Tessy hails from Alappuzha, Kerala and did her engineering graduation in Government Engineering College, Thrissur. She also has an M.Tech in Guided Missile from the Institute of Armament Technology, Pune (now known as the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology).

Tessy Thomas hails from Alleppy in Kerala. After completing B.Tech from Thrissur Engineering College, she joined Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in 1985. She later took an M.Tech in Guided Missile from the Institute of Armament Technology, Pune, and was a member of its faculty. Since 1988, she has been involved in missile development activities as a staff member of the Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Hyderabad. Her primary area of responsibility was design of the complex guidance system. She has also worked with the "missile man" and the former president of India, Dr Abdul Kalam. Tessy Thomas was entrusted with the task of analyzing the failure of the Agni III and her study helped DRDO to identify and overcome the shortcomings and conduct a successful launch later on, in May 2008.

She was appointed as  the programme director of Agni-V, Near about  400 scientists  working under her leadership. She also invented the Re-Entry Vehicle System .
This system help to come back the missile into the Atmosphere again. Missile can be control at 3000 degree Centigrade.

After the crash of Agni -III in the ocean year 2006 , Scientists of DRDO successfully fired and Launched Agni-IV and now Agni-V under her guidence.

China`s Reaction Over Successful Test-Fire of Agni-V

Agni-V : Indian success story on Defence Technology which poses Challenge over Country Like China.

China's Foreign Ministry said China and India should "work hard to uphold friendly strategic cooperation," and for peace and stability in the region.
"China and India are large developing nations. We are not competitors but partners," the Chinese ministry spokesman, Liu Weimin, said when asked about the missile test at a briefing.

The Global Times tabloid, which is owned by the Chinese Communist Party's main mouthpiece the People's Daily, struck a less conciliatory tone.
"India should not overestimate its strength," the paper said in an editorial published before the launch, which was delayed by a day because of bad weather.
India has not signed the non-proliferation treaty for nuclear nations, but enjoys a de facto legitimacy for its arsenal, boosted by a landmark 2008 deal with the United States.

On Wednesday, NATO said it did not consider India a threat. The U.S. State Department said India's non-proliferation record was "solid" while urging restraint.
"NO ARMS RACE - MUTUALITY"

India says its nuclear weapons programme is for deterrence only. It is close to completing a nuclear submarine that would increase its ability to launch a counter strike if it were attacked.

India lost a brief Himalayan border war with its larger neighbour China in 1962 and has ever since strived to improve its defences. In recent years the government has fretted over China's enhanced military presence near the border.

It is buying more than 100 advanced fighter jets, likely Rafales built by France's Dassault, in one of the largest global arms deals.

Even so, slow procurement procedures and corruption scandals mean its army, the world's second biggest, relies on critically outdated guns and suffers ammunition shortages.

Defence analyst Uday Bhaskar said India was not in an arms race with China, which has far greater capabilities, including missiles with a range closer to 10,000 km (6,000 miles).

"As and when Agni-V moves from technological proficiency to assured, credible and proven operational induction - maybe by 2014 - India will move towards acquiring that elusive mutuality it seeks with China," Bhaskar said in a column for Reuters.

  1. The scientists&technicians&others deserve congratulations and NOT the minister or crooked rulers! Why we have such weapons and spend trillions of dollars on when we have a non-violent british agent MK Gandhi as our great leader??? In fact MK Gandhi&nehru have wrecked our nation forever&made us a banna republic of 100 crore morronic&ennuch&cowrad hindus too.Now let us have an ICBM ,nulcear-capable inter-continental ballistic missile, capable of reaching americas too!It is crooked westerners who are our real enemies and NOT china, Let us mkae friendship treaty and economic and monteray block like european union with China,Asean nations except talibanic malaysia, with Brazil&South africa&Russia and TAX all western produtcts 100 or 200% without delay, in another 10 years we can be a super power like China! But we need to kick out crooked nehru dynasty from power without any delay for the above dream to be realised too
