 Anand has won the World Chess Championship five times (2000, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012), and has been the undisputed World Champion since 2007.

He held the FIDE World Chess Championship from 2000 to 2002, at a time when the world title was split. He became the undisputed World Champion in 2007 and defended his title against Vladimir Kramnik in 2008. He then successfully defended his title in the World Chess Championship 2010 against Veselin Topalov and in the World Chess Championship 2012 against Boris Gelfand.

The World Cup champions controlled the play Sunday in the European Championship final, as they usually do. They moved the ball up the field with short pass after short pass, as they usually do. But, incredibly, they also managed to score a whopping four goals, something they don't usually do.

It all added up to a 4-0 win over Italy and a third straight major soccer title for Spain.

"We won being true to our playing style, and by moving the ball the we way we moved it we knew how to take charge of the match," said Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas, the team's captain. "What we do is difficult, but we make it look easy."

Casillas and Spain striker Fernando Torres also made their own histories. Torres became the first man to score in two European Championship finals, and Casillas played in his record 100th victory in international soccer.

Spain's other goals on Sunday at the Olympic Stadium came from David Silva, Jordi Alba and Juan Mata.

"We were superior to Italy," said midfielder Xavi Hernandez, perhaps Spain's most influential player over the last four years. "We played a complete game and perhaps the best of the entire European Championship. We made history."

Sushil Kumar (born May 26, 1983) is an Indian World Champion wrestler who won the gold medal in the 66 kg freestyle competition at the FILA 2010 World Wrestling Championships, a silver medal in the Men's 66kg Freestyle Wrestling event at the 2012 London Olympics and a bronze medal in the Men's 66kg Freestyle Wrestling event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which made him the first Indian to win back to back individual Olympic medals.Sushil Kumar competed against Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu of Japan in the London Olympics finals. Kumar defeated Leonid Spiridonov of Kazakhstan in the repechage round to win the bronze in Beijing Olympics. This was the second medal for India in wrestling, and the first since K D Jadhav's bronze medal at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. On July 2009, he received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna - India's highest honour for sportspersons.

Sushil Kumar belongs to a Jat family who comes from the village Baprola near Najafgarh in South West Delhi. Kumar's father Diwan Singh was a DTC bus driver and mother Kamla Devi a housewife. He was inspired to take up wrestling by his cousin Sandeep and his father who was himself a pehlwan (wrestler). Sandeep quit wrestling as the family could only support one wrestler.With minimal funds and poor training facilities for wrestling in India, even for the 2008 Olympic team, his family made sure he obtained the necessary dietary supplements by sending him tinned milk, ghee and vegetables He is a vegetarian. Kumar is presently employed to the Indian Railways as Assistant Commercial Manager

Vijay Kumar (born 19 August 1985) is a sport shooter from India. He won the silver medal in the individual 25 metre rapid fire pistol event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Kumar hails from Barsar village of Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh and is presently a serving subedar in the Dogra Regiment (16th Battalion) Indian Army. Vijay Kumar is currently supported by the Olympic Gold Quest initiative. He has been posted at Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) Mhow since 2003 where he is being coached by the Russian Pavel Smirnov. Vijay Kumar won the Silver Medal in the 25 m rapid fire pistol event at 2012 London Olympics.He finished with an average score of 9.767. Kumar has a score of 293 with 7 inner 10s in the first stage. Vijay's silver was the second medal for India at London 2012.

Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom, (born 1 March 1983 in Manipur), also known as MC Mary Kom, Magnificent Mary or simply Mary Kom, is an Indian boxer.She is a five-time World Boxing champion, and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships. She is the only Indian woman boxer to have qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics, competing in the flyweight (51kg) category and winning the bronze medal.  She has also been ranked as No. 4 AIBA World Women's Ranking Flyweight category. The first Olympic round was held on 5 August 2012, with Kom defeating Karolina Michalczuk of Poland 19-14 in the third women's boxing match ever to be fought at the Olympics. In the quarter-final, the following day, she defeated Maroua Rahali of Tunisia with a score of 15-6. She faced Nicola Adams of UK in the semi-final on August 8, 2012 and lost the bout 6 points to 11. However, she stood third in the competition and garnered her first olympic Bronze medal.

The United States ended the 2012 Olympics with 104 medals, including 46 gold, leaving London as the clear winner of the Olympics. If the International Olympic Committee gave out medals for the country with the most medals, Team USA would have won another gold medal.

China finished second in the medal count with 88 total medals, 38 gold. Great Britain finished with 65 medals, including 29 gold, giving those in the host nation the bragging rights of most medals per capita.

Still, no matter how many people live in the respective countries or how many athletes those countries sent to compete in the Olympics, it is clear the United States won the 2012 Summer Games. We are the winners at winning. The best. The greatest. Raise our flag and sing our national anthem for the 47th time in 16 days,

Indians in Australia are ecstatic over India being crowned the world champions in under-19 cricket, a win that reassured them that Indian cricket has "a great future".

India defeated defending champions Australia by six wickets to win their third Under-19 Cricket World Cup title Sunday. Captain Unmukt Chand scored an unbeaten 111. Chasing Australia's 225, India got home in 47.4 overs.

ndia lifted the Nehru Cup for the third consecutive time beating Cameroon 5-4 in a penalty shootout at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday. Sunil Chhetri, Robin Singh, Denzil Franco, Mehtab Hossain and Clifford Miranda all scored from the spot while Thierry Makon struck
the right-post to give India an unprecedented win.

In an end-to-end match which went into penalties, a valiant India held their more fancied opponents 2-2 in normal time.

Central defender Gourmangi Singh sent the 12,000 strong crowd into a frenzy as he beat the off-side trap to head in a Clifford Miranda free-kick in the 19th minute.

The Cameroon defence was absent as two Indian players were left completely free. There was more bad news for the Africans as goalkeeper Ngome Lawrence had to be substituted after he collided with Gourmangi.

It didn't take Cameroon much time to find the equaliser. Raju Gaikwad's clearance fell straight to Makon Thierry, who shot past Indian custodian Subrata Paul from outside the box in the 29th minute.

Thierry also played a key role in Cameroon's second. His precise flag-kick allowed Kingue Mpondo to head into an open net in the 54th minute.

With things looking dim for India, Sunil Chhetri gave the fans their voice again from a well-taken spot-kick in the 78th minute.

Mehtab Hossain's brilliant chipped through ball found the Indian captain in acres of space. Chhetri looked to have made a hash of things but recovered well only to be brought down by substitute keeper Nkessi Hosea.

A record Twenty20 World Cup opening stand of 133 by David Warner and Shane Watson helped Australia cruise to a nine-wicket win over India in their first Super Eights match on Friday.Watson, who also took three for 34 with his seam bowling, won his third straight man of the match award in the tournament after lashing seven sixes and two fours in a 42-ball 72 as his side reached their target of 141 with 31 deliveries to spare.

Warner made an undefeated 63 in 41 balls after rain had interrupted play in the first over of the Australian innings.

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was unable to stem the flow of runs despite using eight bowlers including part-timers Yuvraj Singh, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Earlier, Dhoni won the toss and chose to bat first but his team were restricted to 140 for seven. Opener Irfan Pathan top-scored with 31.

Australia pace bowler Pat Cummins brilliantly ran out opener Gautam Gambhir for 17 by kicking the ball on to the stumps.

The in-form Kohli also fell for 15 before Watson removed Yuvraj (eight) and Pathan in the same over.Cummins finished with figures of two for 16 in four overs.

In fact, by the time the West Indies innings had reached the 10-over mark, the left-hander had made just 25 off 17 balls with 3 sixes, no fours and 8 dot balls. That’s just 17 balls out of 60 and just 25 runs out of 74.Gayle was on fire against Australia.

The Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) has been suspended by the International Boxing Association (AIBA) for "possible manipulation" of its elections, in the wake of a wider Olympic ban that has left sports in the Asian country reeling.

The IABF amended its constitution ahead of its September election to create the chairman's post to accommodate Abhay Singh Chautala at the end of his 12-year reign as the federation president.That paved the way for his unopposed election as president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Wednesday, a day after the IOC banned the body for allowing government interference in its poll.

Even though the AIBA suspension is a direct fallout of the Olympic ban, the Indian boxing federation's September election is now under investigation.

"This provisional suspension is also due to the fact that AIBA had learned about possible manipulation of the recent IABF's election," the governing body of amateur boxing said in a statement."AIBA will now investigate this election and especially a potential political link between IOA President, as former Chairman of the IABF, and the IABF election."

Compounding the pressure, India's sports ministry also announced on Friday that it had suspended the IABF, effectively cutting off the sport's government funding.

Indian boxing federation chief Abhishek Matoria claimed the AIBA suspension had come from out of the blue, but conceded the global governing body had enquired about their elections."It's a big, big shock for all of us," Matoria told Reuters on Friday."They suspended us without giving us a chance to explain. They did write a letter to us alleging 'malpractice' in election but never specified."We sent them a detailed explanation, point by point and I have no idea why they still suspended us.

"I can assure you we would do everything to make sure our boxers don't suffer. We'd approach AIBA and even IOC is required to revoke the suspension."The AIBA ban is a massive blow to Indian boxing, whose fighters were making regular podium finishes in international events.

"I am really disappointed with this suspension. This is bad news for Indian sportspersons," Vijender Singh, who won India's first Olympic boxing medal at the 2008 Beijing Games, told NDTV channel."I want to continue representing India in future but this news will affect the morale of the Indian boxers."The next AIBA event is quite far away but hopefully we would not sit on it for too long and get the suspension revoked as soon as possible."

Sunk to the bottom of the sea! You can say that of Indian cricket until the time it reorganises its dwindling resources and makes a mark as a consistent Test team.

The woeful performance on the last day of the final Test against England certainly cast doubts on the durability of some of the members of this team that went down 1-2, the first series loss for India at home in eight years. This was England’s first series win in India after 1984-85.

England, which finished the day at 352 for four, was never going to be a pushover. The team had painstakingly prepared for this expedition and the heights were scaled with utmost professionalism. Each member played his role with Jonathan Trott picking the stage to compile his eighth Test century, an innings that crushed any Indian hopes of a miraculous comeback into the match.

A professional performance by the Indian team helped them gain a face-saving and series-leveling win over Pakistan in the second T20 here at Motera on Friday.

For once, India did everything right with the bat but looked like giving it all away while bowling till the time the spinners were on. It was the re-introduction of seam in the 15th over which put the brakes on scoring which led to the fall of wickets to pave the way for a memorable 11-run victory. Unlike the last match or the one against England before that, Indian bowlers bowled well at the death which proved crucial in the end.

Nasir Jamshed and Ahmed Shahzad gave Pakistan the start they needed, putting on 74 runs for the first wicket chasing India's massive 192 for the loss of five wickets. Though both departed in the space of just six deliveries, Pakistan found two dependable figures in skipper Mohammad Hafeez and Umar Akmal as they went on treating the Indian bowlers with the same disdain with which the Indian batsmen had treated the Pakistani bowlers earlier in the day.

But once the faster bowlers started operating again, it was a different scenario altogether. They went for the occasional four and six. But they were generally hard to score off and the pressure started mounting.

It was Dinda who first gave some hope to the silent but packed house by uprooting Umar Akmal's middle stump in the 17th over when Pakistan still needed 47 runs to win. Old warhorse Shahid Afridi and skipper Hafeez almost silenced the crowd, putting on 17 runs off just nine balls before the dangerous Afridi was caught at the long-off fence by Rohit Sharma off Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

But it was Dinda's double strike in the 19th over when he removed the dangerous Hafeez and Kamran Akmal, both caught in the deep by Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina respectively that really pegged Pakistan back.

Earlier, the dew factor prompted Hafeez to put India in after he won the toss. But as he later said, there wasn't enough dew to make any difference to the outcome. The pitch had nothing for the bowlers and most batsmen who had a chance to wield the willow made merry.

But what stood out was Yuvraj Singh's 36-ball 72 with seven 6s and four 4s and his 97-run fourth wicket partnership with skipper MS Dhoni (33 from 23 balls with four 4s) which propelled India towards a formidable total.

The earlier batsmen too managed to create a hole in Pakistan's bowling bubble as Gautam Gambhir (21 from 11 balls, 4x4), Ajinkya Rahane (28 from 26 balls) and Virat Kohli (27 from 22 balls) played important cameos.
