Geometry : Circle, Quadrilateral and other Polygons (Pentagon,Hexagon,etc) : Basic Geometry Part-2

Different Parts of Circle

CIRCLE:

A circle is a set points that are all the same distance from a given point called the center.

Radius:

The distance from the center of the circle to any point on the circle itself.The symbol r is used for the radius.

Diameter:

The length of a line that passes across a circle through the center. The diameter is twice the size of the radius. the symbol d is used for the diameter.

Circumference:

The circumference of a circle is the distance around the circle.To determine the circumference of a circle, use either of these two equivalent formulas:

  2 */\* r       or          /\*d    (r = Radius , d = Diameter , /\ (Pi) = 3.14 or 22 / 7).

Area Of A Circle:

The area of a circle is the space its surface occupies. To determine the area of a circle, use this formula:

Area = /\* r ^ 2   or  /\ *r*r

Quadrilateral:

Different Types of Quadrilaterals and Polygons like Pentagon,Hexagon and Octagon

In Euclidean plane geometry, a quadrilateral is a polygon with four sides (or edges) and four vertices or corners. Sometimes, the term quadrangle is used

The interior angles of a simple quadrilateral A B C D add up to 360 degrees of arc.

There are special types of quadrilateral:
Types of Quadrilateral

Some types are also included in the definition of other types! For example :
1) Parallelogram
2) Rhombus
3) Rectangle
4) Square
5) Trapezium

1) PARALLELOGRAM:

Picture of Parallelogram

Parallelogram is a quadrilateral ( Four sided closed shape ) whose  two opposite  sides are equal and parallel ,The opposite angles are the same size, but they don`t have to be the right angles. Parallelogram looks like a rectangle leaning to one side.

Area = Base * Height

The base is the size of the side on the bottom. The height (or altitude) is the size of a perpendicular line drawn from the base to the side opposite it. The height of a rectangle and a square is the same as the size of its vertical side.

Perimeter = sum of all four sides

in case of  Parallelogram (opposite sides are equal in length)

Perimeter = 2 ( Length + width)

2) RHOMBUS:

Picture of Rhombus

Rhombus is a parallelogram where all for sides are equal in size but they don`t have to be right angles.

3) RECTANGLE:

Picture of Rectangles

Rectangle is a quadrilateral ( Four sided closed shape ) whose  two opposite  sides are equal and parallel having angles of 90 degrees on all four sides.

Area = Base * Height

The base is the size of the side on the bottom. The height (or altitude) is the size of a perpendicular line drawn from the base to the side opposite it. The height of a rectangle and a square is the same as the size of its vertical side.

The area formula for the rectangle and square may be expressed in an equivalent from as:

Area = Length * Width

Perimeter = sum of all four sides

in case of rectangle (opposite sides are equal in length)

Perimeter = 2 ( Length + width)

4) SQUARE:

Picture of Squares

Square is a quadrilateral ( Four sided closed shape ) whose  all four  sides are equal and parallel having angles of 90 degrees on all four sides.

Area = Base * Height

The base is the size of the side on the bottom. The height (or altitude) is the size of a perpendicular line drawn from the base to the side opposite it. The height of a rectangle and a square is the same as the size of its vertical side.

The area formula for the rectangle and square may be expressed in an equivalent from as:

Area = Length ^2 ( in case of square Length = Width)

Perimeter = sum of all four sides

in case of square (opposite sides are equal in length)

Perimeter = 4* Length (Length = Width)

5) TRAPEZIUM:

Picture of Trapezium

It is a Quadrilateral (four sided polygon)  which have all four sides are not equal and all four angles are not equal and not 90 Degrees.

  1. I want discuss all of these into a short note as In General, Quadrilateral means four sides but in geometry we can say any four sided shape is quadrilateral with a condition sides have to be straight and it has to be 2 dimensional. example a square, rhombus, trapezium and rectangle are also parallelograms.
